Background

The song has garnered national airplay thanks in part to being featured on numerous mixtapes.[1] Hurricane Chris goes so far as saying on his MySpace page, "I bet that its gonna be a baby’s first word because it’s so catchy. It gets stuck in your head the first time you hear it."[2] The voice in the beginning is Baby 3, son of Shreveport's rapper 3 Feet. Baby 3's line is "This Baby 3, everybody say, A Bay Bay." Hurricane got the idea of the hook from DJ Hollyhood Bay Bay. Whenever he would enter a club, onlookers would shout, "Hey, Bay, Bay."[3]

The song debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number ninety-five in June 2007,[4] rising in the next week to number eighty-five before jumping sharply to number twenty-four in its third week on the chart.[5] The single ended up reaching number seven. The video was number three on BET's Top 100 videos of 2007. The song samples parts of MC Ren's "Forget What Ya Heard". The video for "A Bay Bay" was shot in the Cedar Grove neighborhood, and features local landmarks, and crowds singing along to the song. It also peaked at number one on the popular music video show 106 & Park. According to Billboard, the phrase "A Bay Bay" is heard in this song a total of sixty-seven times.

Remixes

The official remix, "The Ratchet Remix" features Game, Lil Boosie, E-40, Birdman, Angie Locc, and Jadakiss. The music video for this remix features all of the previously mentioned artists, except for E-40, but still makes a cameo in there, followed by Pitbull, Lil Jon, and Lil Wayne.[3] However, in the extended music video, E-40's verse is presented. Big Kuntry King was in the second remix. Sincero, Chingo Bling, and Pitbull made their own version entitled, "'Aye Wey Wey".
